NBA Lane Comes to Life in Meta
Horizon Worlds
As a Technical Project Manager, Scottlin worked Meta and the NBA to launch and scale NBA Lane, the league’s fictional VR neighborhood used in promotional content this season and an interactive destination in Horizon Worlds.
Horizon Worlds is the virtual-reality-based metaverse developed by the company formerly known as Facebook. NBA Lane is hosting several games and activities for visitors, including a free-throw shooting contest, low-gravity dunk contest, a chance to take selfies with a virtual Larry O’Brien Trophy and a place for communal viewing of NBA content on a big screen.
The NBA and Meta have collaborated on prior VR projects, including making some League Pass games available to Quest users through Horizon Venues. Meta announced last week that Horizon Venues would soon be folded into Horizon Worlds and subsequently retired as a standalone platform.

Jollibee Self Ordering KIOSK
INNOVATIONS at Jollibee has taken its mission of spreading the joy of eating to a whole new level.
As Sr. Digital Innovations Project Manager Scottlin launched self-order kiosks globally in selected outlets located in key cities and municipalities in the Phillipines, UAE, England, and the US. To date, there are a total of 97 self-order kiosks in 37 Jollibee branches all over the country. These include branches in BGC Triangle Drive, Katipunan Quezon City, Bay Laguna, Ayala Center Cebu, and Lagao, South Cotabato. More stores are in the pipeline.
Designed to make choosing and ordering meals easier and more convenient, the touch-to-order system was first piloted in 2018. The self-order kiosks cater to time conscious and energy-starved customers who prefer to order at their own pace, see the available menu selections, and be given the choice to customize their orders with ease and accuracy.

Boost Mobile Where You At VR

Scottlin was brought on when wireless lifestyle brand Boost Mobile tapped creative content company Chopshop to help reinvent their iconic “Where You At” tagline with the multi-media VR campaign, “We Are #WhereYouAt”. In addition to creating a visually stunning, star-studded spot that captures the essence of Boost Mobile’s brand identity and contemporizes their well known past branding, Chopshop also broke down technological barriers in the process.
Combining traditional video, 360 video, and interactive playback was a production challenge, as these pipelines are not used to talking to one another. Scottlin was instrumental in creating this pipeline and managing this creative process, yet another innovation of this project, one that is significant as gaming and filmmaking continue to merge in the melting pot of VR.

Twisted Metal "Shoot My Truck"
We had to launch a crazy "demolition derby with guns" type game for the PS3 with a budget of $800K. Instead of a watered-down integrated campaign, we created this real-life online shooting gallery event around the launch of the game. We invented the first machine gun controllable through the internet and promoted it with PR and social. Did the world need this? No. But the game did, and the launch was a huge success.
Managed by Deutsch LA's Integrated PM Scottlin Rucker, the effort invited gamers to control (via the Web) a real M249-SAW firing at an ice cream truck and other objects in the desert. Gamers queue at ShootMyTruck.com to control the powerful gun this morning, with about 1,500 expected to get turns of 30 seconds each over two days of mayhem. Three gamers got 90 seconds of shooting time for the grand finale, which was punctuated by the explosion of the truck. The results were livecast from the site. An intro video of the project features Twisted Metal’s legendary game director David Jaffe saying, “Why am I standing in the middle of a f—-g desert? Because I’m about to start blowing shit up.”
The campaign took place on the day Twisted Metal hits stores, ironically timed to Valentine’s Day. Deutsch opted for this approach over a campaign with a TV spot and takeovers of game sites. The idea, according to Deutsch LA creative director Sam Bergen, was to make a big splash with an “alpha moment” that will impress the hard-to-impress gamer crowd and serve as a bridge between the make-believe of video games and real life.
“It’s this thought that if you were handed an automatic weapon and 70 bullets, would you pull the trigger?” he said. “The answer for every gamer is, ‘hell yeah.’ We wanted to give a tangible experience to play this game.”

Setting World Records with Sony PlayStation
Working as Integrated Project Manager under Deutsch, Scottlin helped Sony Computer Entertainment America LLC. (SCEA) host a three day celebration in an effort to set five Guinness World Records attributed to LittleBigPlanet 2, the latest PlayStation experience and sequel to the award-winning, multi-million unit selling hit LittleBigPlanet. Dedicated LittleBigPlanet fans took over the PlayStation Lounge at the Sony Style store in New York City to earn their place in history. The five Guinness World Records that were set included: "Longest Marathon playing LittleBigPlanet 2," "Longest Marathon playing a platform video game," "Most video game genres played in one video game in 24 hours," "Most user-generated video game levels played in 24 hours," and "Most user-generated video game levels played in a video game marathon." Throughout the three day period, three spirited gamers headlined the historic run
California Bear Stare Water Saving Game
Online #BearStare Game Has Fun #DroughtShaming Californians Into Saving Water
It’s no secret that California is suffering from an unprecedented drought. And it’s been going on for quite some time. While there are rumblings of El Nino-style weather next year, this year Californians continue to face challenges.
As Project Manager, Scottlin provided project management for a new online game and accompanying campaign, created by Campbell Ewald for Energy Upgrade California, aims to counter #droughtshaming — the practice of shaming and blankly staring at people wasting water when they shouldn’t be — with the #BearStare.
The #BearStare game, which uses a person’s computer camera and face tracking technology, challenges people to outlast the stare of a very witty bear who does his best to knock people off their stare game by dropping quips and tips on how to use less water and save energy.
Win or lose, people can upload their stare to the campaign site gallery and to Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
The game is accompanied by a TV spot which features the bear and urges people to seek out information on saving water, as well as avoiding the Bear Stare.
